Copyrights of audio samples that do not fall in the public domain are dealt with by the Dutch organization for music licensing and authorship BUMA/STEMRA. KITLV pays an annual fee to BUMA/STEMRA to be able to maintain this website. BUMA/STEMRA is the official organization to secure remuneration of royalties to composers or performers.

CONDITIONS OF PERMISSION FOR THE REPRODUCTION OF PHOTOS, MAPS, PRINTS, ETC., FROM THE COLLECTIONS OF KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies
A photograph or other paper document may only be published after permission has been given by the Department of Special Collections of the KITLV and after the copyright payment has been made.
The KITLV hereby grants permission for use of the specified image in one publication only. The use of the material for further printing, publication, sale, lending, broadcasting or any other public purpose, whether by the same person or by others, without prior permission from the KITLV, is prohibited.
Each time the specified image is used full mention must be made of the source, viz.:
- ‘Collection of the KITLV, Leiden, The Netherlands.’
The client is requested to send a complementary copy of the publication concerned by way of proof to the KITLV (The department of Special Collections) upon publication.
After having used the images the client is requested to return them to the KITLV (The department of Special Collections). When the images were supplied on cd-rom the client is obliged to send them back at all times.
